Uncharted (2022)
Tom Holland’s ‘Uncharted’ Is Banned in Vietnam Over Illegal Map Images.
Sony’s hit action-adventure “Uncharted” has been banned in Vietnam over the film’s inclusion of a map that depicts China’s contested territorial claims in Southeast Asia.
The film, which stars Tom Holland, Mark Walhberg and Antonio Banderas were to have arrived in Vietnamese cinemas on March 18. Prior to this weekend, the film had grossed $278 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
Vietnamese state media announced the ban on Saturday. “The film was banned from distribution after we watched it and found it contained an illegal image of the infamous nine-dash line,” Vietnam News Agency reported. It cited Vi Kien Thanh, head of the Department of Cinema, the government structure responsible for licensing and censoring foreign films.
The Roundup (2022)
Starring Don Lee, aka Ma Dong-Seok from Eternals and Train To Busan, The Roundup is South Korea’s 13th biggest box office hit of all time. The film has recorded more than 12.5 million admissions since its local release on May 18, according to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC).
The film is a sequel in The Outlaws (2017) action franchise starring Lee as a ‘beast of a cop’. In this story, his character goes to Vietnam with his team to extradite a suspect but gets involved in investigating a vicious killer and his crew who have been committing crimes against Korean tourists for years in Ho Chi Minh City.
Local industry professionals speculate the depiction of Ho Chi Minh as a lawless place where Korean criminals run amuck might have been thought to give a negative image of the place and contributed to the ban.
