VY'S A-LEVEL
MEDIA STUDIES BLOG

For this scene, I will be building a set in my room. I needed a dark room that is kind of like an interrogation room and I haven’t found a space like that so I thought it would be better to build a set. I bought all the props that I would need for the set.

Since I’m looking for an interrogation room vibe, I’m going to be using artificial lighting and I’ve bought a photography light for this. Since it’s in my room, it’s very convenient so I’m not restricted by time here and I have access to power sources for all of my extra equipment. It would take quite a long time to set up everything and there are also a lot of emotional scenes here so I’m not sure how long would it take for me to film the scenes here.

There are not many filming possibilities here but since there is no background, I can easily edit the footage to achieve my intended look. (Great to edit two shots since I don’t have to match up the background that much)

I need a lot of control over the space of this location for the scene to work and would take a lot of time to film it so building a set is perfect.

The first time I saw this space, I knew that I wanted to film a chasing scene right at this location. The way the parking slots are arranged creates a perfect scenery for a creepy chasing scene. And so I also kept this location in mind while writing the screenplay for “Mind Chase”.

There are a lot of filming possibilities here, I can utilise the space and have many different angles of the action. However, we would have to make sure that there are no cars around when we do this. It won’t be a problem though because it isn’t busy during a few time periods which is when I can film there.

This is another ambitious scene and I would need help from at least 2 other people. One to hold the camera and the other to push the cameraman to create a perfect tracking shot.

I will use the natural lighting available here which sets the perfect tone that I’m aiming for. There aren’t many shots here but it would require probably at least an hour to cover all the angles as well as the tracking shots.

For the tracking shot, I will use a trolley that I have to have the cameraman sit on the trolley and be pushed to shoot the scene. I might need a gimbal to make it even smoother. For the different angles, I would need to use multiple tripods which I have.

As far as I know, I don’t need to have permission to film here.

UPDATE:

I'm not using this location anymore

This is where most of my scenes would be at. It’s convenient but also fitting to my character and the overall story. It’s my space so I can film whenever and re-arrange the room how I want it to be.

There are a lot of filming possibilities but it’s a bit limited due to the size of the room and different spaces I kept that in mind while writing the screenplay so it won't be a problem. I’ll be using both natural and artificial light. Since there are a lot of scenes in this location, the filming would have to spread out over many days, and scenes here also require different times of the day. Since it’s a really convenient location, I can shoot at any time I want to so it isn’t a problem.

I’ll be utilising all of the different spaces in my room for the film. Bed, desk, closet. And I’ll be using all of my gear and props and kind of playing around with the space since I can. I will definitely rearrange a lot of it to fit the atmosphere that I am aiming for.
